Southern Cluster
Completed Neighbourhood Priorities
- AUTOCRIME Show details
The priority set at the Local Area Group meeting held on 10th May 2011 for the southern cluster is autocrime. This was decided following the results of surveys conducted within the local community. There is no specific pattern to the problem, vehicles are randomly being targeted usually overnight and while unattended on the street. Entry into vehicles is due to them being left insecure, by door locks being forced or by rear quarter light window being smashed. Gloveboxes are being searched and items such as satellite navigation systems are being removed.
Our Response
Increased high visible patrols and also covert patrols will continue to take place in order to offer reassurance to residents, to act as a deterrent or catch autocrime offenders. Intelligence will continue to be gathered, given to us by the community and by conducting stop checks in the area. Where there is sufficient intelligence search warrants will be obtained and executed.
Target hardening has taken place by distributing crime prevention letters and neighbourhood alerts.
Nottinghamshire Police have a capture car which is a car containing cctv and smart water equipment for the purpose of catching criminals. This has been deployed in the area and will continue to be utilised in an attempt to identify thieves operating in the area.
For information on the problem solving work that has been carried out on this priority, please see the relevant beat page which is updated monthly. This priority will be re-assessed in September 2011.
Our Solution
At the LAG meeting on 31/08/11 it was deemed that this was no longer a priority. However Policing will still take place around this area of crime. - Speeding Vehicles Show details
Representatives from all areas within this beat cluster attended a Local Area Group meeting in July, in order to set the priorities for the following three months. Neighbourhood Priority Surveys have been used to collect the opinions, beliefs and concerns of the residents across the beat cluster this being Porchester, Valley, Carlton Hill, Carlton, Netherfield and Colwick. Further information has also been gathered through surgeries and house to house/business visits to ensure that Policing priorities reflect and address the issues specific to the community. Various locations have been identified throughout the beat cluster.
The main locations for speeding offences are as follows:
Netherfield and Colwick: Vale Road
There is no specific pattern to this problem and as such it will be targeted at various times of day particularly during the morning and afternoon rush hour.
Our Response
Beat officers and Gedling Borough Council wardens will use the handheld speed camera to identify offending vehicles.
We will advise motorists, caution or prosecute them depending on each individual circumstance. Persistent offenders will be repeatedly targeted.
Local residents will be asked if they would like to set up a Community Speedwatch to help us to identify the persistent offenders and more effectively target them.
We will regularly liaise with the Force Speed Enforcement Team to see if we meet the criteria for their attendance and action.
This priority will be reassessed in October 2010.
For information on any action taken, in relation to these priorities please see the relevant beat page, which is updated each month.
Our Solution
No recorded complaints agreed at the LAG meeting that this was no longer relevant. - Vehicle Nuisance - Car Cruising Show details
The following locations have been identified in relation to car racing / car cruising problems;
Pintail Close, Drake Road, car parks to premises at Victoria Retail Park and all adjoining roads on the Victoria Retail Park, including Victoria Park Way which leads to the Colwick Loop Road.
Our Response
There will be Police led operations run by the Beat Officers, PCSO, Specials and Gedling Borough Council wardens.
This will help to identify any offending vehicles involved in ‘car cruising’. Various options will be used to prevent and detect offences, such as the use of verbal warnings and fixed penalty notices. Arrests will be made where applicable using appropriate legislation.
Our Solution
Problem solving work has been carried out by the Police in conjunction with Gedling Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and local businesses. To date there have been no further problems and work is being undertaken to prevent this area being attractive to car crusing. - BURGLARY Show details
At the Local Area Group meeting held on the 10th of May 2011 the following was decided as a priority for the Gedling southern cluster. With the weather improving burglary becomes a risk to the communities. The leaving open of doors and windows make homes an easy target for burglars. The leaving of expensive items in gardens or insecure shed also invite criminals. As a result of previous years this has been raised as a priority for the local neighbourhoods team to tackle.
Our Response
We are tackling the outlets for property stolen from burglaries making it difficult to dispose of property and make it less favourable to commit these crimes. We are working with intelligence provided by the community. We will be conducting warrants on suspect addresses. We will be campaigning to prevent insecurity break ins.
In addition to this we conduct strict management of offenders working closely with our partners in housing and probation. Other proactive work ongoing with Nottinghamshire Police and partners tackles the causes of such criminality such as drugs.
We will be conducting high visibility patrol to deter criminals for acting in this area as well as covert enquiries.
For information on the problem solving work that has been carried out on this priority, please see the relevant beat page which is updated monthly. This priority will be re-assessed in September 2011.
Our Solution
At the LAG meeting held on 31st August 2011, it was decided that this was no longer a priority. However this will area of crime will remian a priority for the Police. - Metal Thefts Show details

There has been a sudden rise in thefts of metal from vehicles or off buildings due to the current price of scrap metal. There have been complaints of illegal waste carriers operating in the area. The trend exists for vehicles, mainly transits and open back vehicles to cruise the streets looking for opportunities to acquire metal from skips, gardens and buildings.
Various locations have been identified throughout the beat cluster:
Valley ward – Carnarvon Grove and Ivy Grove areas
Porchester – Moore Road and Kenrick Road areas
Our Response
We are currently conducting high visibility patrols stopping 'scrap wagons' to ensure that they are both legitimate and have legal property on board. People removing scrap illegally will be prosecuted for theft and those operating without the relevant waste carriers licence will be reported to the environment agency.
We have been and will continue to conduct visits to scrap yards and metal dealers. This has the joint effect of ensuring that illegal metals are not taken in and that the metal is made less desirable because of the difficult.
Target hardening is taking place where we are discussing lead and copper alternatives with vulnerable premises.
Update (09/01/12) - locally led operations continue to be led on the Borough, where vehicles are stopped and checked in relation to the thefts of metal. This also includes visits to local scrap yards.
This priority will be re-assessed on 17th January 2012 at the Priority Setting Meeting
Our Solution
This priority was discussed at the Neighbourhood Priority setting meeting held this week and it was deemed to be no longer a priority. Work is continuing in relation to this problem and will be subject to days of action throughout the year. - Vehicle Nuisance Show details

Vehicle nuisance has been identified as an on going problem that is taking place at the Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield. This can at its worse involve more than a hundred vehicles.
Complaints of noise nuisance are being experienced by residents in this and surrounding areas.
The main night for activity is Sunday between 8pm and midnight.

The Fire and Rescue Service are working with the drivers of these vehicles to raise awareness of Road Safety in order try to reduce.
Work is being undertaken to bring these offending drivers to justice.
This priority will be reassessed in October 2010.

There have been increased reports of drug dealing taking place in the areas as below. There is no specific pattern to this problem, however there is a belief that drugs are being dealt at these locations at all times of the day particularly early afternoon onwards on all days of the week. The increase of youths in these areas, creates a general fear of crime and as such public confidence decreases.
Various locations have been identified throughout the beat cluster:
Carlton Hill ward – The Brickyard area, including Standhill Road and Brick Kiln Way.
Our Response
High Profile Patrols are to be conducted in these areas and stop checks and searches will be carried out where appropriate. These patrols will hopefully reduce the calls being received and in turn prevent and detect offences.
Intelligence received via Crimestoppers and the community will be acted upon and warrants will be executed.
Offenders will be prosecuted if found in possession of drugs.
Update (01/03/12) - these areas have been reviewed and remain the same. Patrols have been carried out in these identified locations and positive action taken where drugs have been found. Warrants have been executed and more are planned in the near future. We would continue to seek information from the community in relation to this priority.
This priority will be re-assessed on 16th April 2012 at the next Priority Setting Meeting.
Our Solution
At the Neighbourhood Priority Setting Meeting this was deemed to no longer be a priority after data had been considered. However work in this particular type of crime area will continue to be part of the Neighbourhood Policing team's daily business.
