Leake and Keyworth

The Keyworth and East Leake neighbourhood policing area is made up of the previous beats formally known as Keyworth, Tollerton, Neville, The Wolds, Leake, Gotham, Stanford and Soar Valley and incorporates 30 villages and covers the majority of the Rushcliffe South area. The two main villages of East Leake and Keyworth cater for almost everything that is required by the public with good bus links to the city and surrounding areas, the rest of the area is mainly rural with lots of open land. The area houses quite a few large companies which include the Eon Power station situated on the A453 and British Gypsum Stone Quarry within the village of East Leake.
The area is bordered by five major roads, these being the A46, A453, A60, A6006, A606 with other parts bordered by B and unclassified roads and is surrounded by the Leicestershire border, due to this we have good links with cross border officers.

Neighbourhood Priorities

Through consultation with the members of the public in this neighbourhood we regularly set out a number of priorities to be tackled.

  • Fear of Crime, namely Burglary Show details
On Wednesday 26 May 2010 a Neighbourhood Priority Setting Meeting took place to discuss local policing for the next three months. This meeting consisted of members of the community such as neighbourhood watch members, parish councillors, local residents and business people.

A review of the previous three months work in relation to the priorities were given and also the results of 817 surveys completed in Leake and Keyworth areas in the ensuing period.
38 per cent of these surveys highlighted that the fear of crime, such as burglary, was a concern for local residents.

The three areas specified as the priority locations from these surveys were:-
    Tollerton
    Upper Broughton
    Stanton on the Wolds

No specific time or day was identified by the surveys, however from researching crime statistics, most incidents occur during working hours and in the early hours of the morning. There is no clear pattern identifying any day of the week.

This priority will be re-assessed at the end of August 2010.

    Our Response
Members of the local beat team will tackle the fear of crime in the areas raised in a number of ways most notably by undertaking high visibility patrols in these areas at material times. This will include patrols by the Special Constabulary and additional covert patrols. We will also aim to conduct additional crime prevention and information services within these areas and raise the profile of neighbourhood watch and smartwater. Positive action will be taken and offenders arrested where required. Use will be made of stop and search powers and attention to suspicious vehicles on the roads.
Risky people and Places will be targetted in line with the forces 20/20 Vision both with a view to positive action being taken and also to steer offenders away from criminality where possible.
The website will be updated on a fortnightly basis with news on policing activity, arrests of significance and any other relative information.

We also continue to work alongside the Crime Reduction Partnership and Neighbourhood Watch.
