Burglars target keys to steal vehicles
Posted on 28th July 2010
Thieves have driven away with a number of cars after picking up ignition keys during house burglaries.
Offenders have targeted at least six addresses in Retford and Worksop over the last two weeks, mainly between 10pm and 5am.
Police are asking the public to be extra vigilant and take security measures to protect their homes and vehicles.
Steve Ward, Bassetlaw Crime Reduction Manager, said: “We have seen a slight increase in cases where homes are entered during the night with thieves seemingly targeting vehicles. There are a few simple steps everyone can take to reduce their chances of becoming a victim.
”Reviewing home security, setting burglar alarms, making sure doors and windows are locked and hiding keys from view can all make a difference.
“Looking out for your neighbours and being vigilant can also help. ”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
