Thieves attempt to break in to building society
Posted on 19th March 2010
Thieves fled empty-handed after an attempted robbery at a building society in Worksop on Wednesday 17 March.
A group of at least two men used tools to smash the door of the Halifax branch in Bridge Street at around 10pm.
Security staff inside the building secured themselves in a safe room and alerted police. They were unharmed.
After attempting to steal from ATM machines inside the building, the offenders left empty-handed in a silver coloured Range Rover, which they had parked in Central Avenue and Bridge Street.
They abandoned the Range Rover in nearby Humphries Gardens where police believe they transferred into another vehicle to leave the area.
Police are investigating a number of lines of enquiry and are asking the public to let them know if they saw the Range Rover or the offenders in the area around the time of the attempted robbery.
Anyone with information should contact Worksop CID on 101, ext. 807 7132 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
