Pupils display flashes of brilliance

Updated on 4th November 2009 10:01

A competition to design posters promoting firework safety in schools has sparked the imagination of young people across the county.

Primary pupils were invited to submit their entries for the scheme that was run in partnership with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

Winners were chosen for each of the four policing divisions – Mansfield and Ashfield; Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood; City and South Nottinghamshire.

The successful pictures selected were turned into posters that were displayed in all other competing schools from the respective region.

Safer Neighbourhoods Project Manager Insp Simon Pealing said: “The competition was intended to inform young people about the dangers of fireworks as well as the nuisance they can cause when they are not used correctly.

“At the same time we wanted to keep the emphasis on people having fun and enjoying themselves this Bonfire Night.

“We received some excellent entries and I would like to thank everyone who took time to create a poster for us.

“I would also like to congratulate our four superb winners. They have each received a framed copy of their poster as well as a visit from their local fire crew.”
