Partnership Specialist Joins Nottinghamshire Police Authority

Posted on 17th May 2010

Nottinghamshire Police Authority has announced the formal appointment of partnership specialist Melanie Futer, who has joined the Authority as an Independent Member for a four year term.

Ms Futer, who managed Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships in both Nottinghamshire and Rutland, has also worked for the police service and local authorities.

Commenting on her new role she said: "I'm passionate about policing and I believe that, in a great many ways, the police do a good job in difficult circumstances.  However, they are not the only players in the battle against crime and anti-social behaviour and I think we need to drive this point home.  There are many different partners who can make a huge contribution and I would like to use my skills to build a more resilient approach to partnership working.

"We need to use multi-agency teams more effectively, so that different problems are tackled by the appropriate people.  This will reduce waste, duplication and streamline services more effectively.

"I am also keen to see the community more involved in the decisions that are made about policing and will be working with the Authority to see how we can give local residents a louder voice in the decision making process.  I want to see local solutions to local issues and think that the Police Authority is the ideal platform for this."

John Clarke, Chair of the Police Authority, said: "Melanie obviously has an exceptional knowledge of the partnership set-up in Nottinghamshire, which is something that we are working to make more resilient from a policing perspective.  Her experience and understanding will help enormously as we develop the new partnership agenda.

"The diverse skills of our independent members are an integral part of the Authority's make up and will be used to great effect as we implement our improvement programme."

Melanie is the University of Nottingham's Manager off Campus Student Affairs and a trustee of the City of Nottingham Neighbourhood Watch.
