We're passionate about delivering a top quality police service

Posted on 19th March 2009

In Nottinghamshire we are passionate about delivering a top quality police service. That is why we listen and respond to what you tell us so that when you need our help, you get a service we are proud of.

We asked you… what are the priorities for police and other agencies in tackling crime in your area?

You said… “burglary from homes.”

We listened… and continue to make burglary one of our biggest priorities.

The number of burglaries has now fallen by more than 40 per cent since 2003.

We will continue working with housing providers and planning departments in order to improve security.

We are continuing to develop forensic techniques and intelligence sources to catch and convict prolific burglars. Further partnership work is taking place to ensure that offenders released from prison are diverted away from crime through various measures, including drug treatment support.

The force will also continue to listen to what victims of burglary, and other crimes, are telling us so we can continue to improve our service.

We asked you… what reasons you might have for a lack of confidence in the police.

You said… “we very rarely see any police”

We listened… and we are now answering emergency calls faster than ever. Between April 2008 and February 2009 we answered 93.5 per cent of the 252,418 emergency 999 calls we received within ten seconds. During the same period we also received 436,065 public calls to our control rooms, answering 81.5 per cent within 30 seconds.

We are also working hard to increase uniformed officer visibility. Hundreds of our officers now have hand-held computer devices allowing them to access information out on the beat. This reduces the need for them to return to the station, ensuring they are out on patrol longer

There is now a Safer Neighbourhood Team dedicated to making your area a safer place. Details of all can be found on our Safer Neighbourhoods web page.

We asked you… what are the main priorities for police in your neighbourhood?

You said… “solving crimes and helping bring offenders to justice”

We listened… and have seen a reduction in total recorded crime, year-on-year for the last five consecutive years. There were 11,651 fewer crimes in Nottinghamshire in 2007/08 compared to 2006/07. Between 2001/02 and 2007/08, Nottinghamshire achieved the seventh largest percentage reduction in all crime, out of the 43 forces in England and Wales.
