Important Information: Nottinghamshire Police Firearms Licensing can no longer accept applications for renewal of Firearm or Shotgun certificates or renewal applications of Registered Firearms Dealerships without a medical verification form being completed by your GP.

Medical verifications should be submitted to your GP before sending an application for renewal. Please note due to COVID-19, expect a turnover of up to 12 weeks for the completed medical verification and in such cases it is advised to submit your renewal application without. It is the responsibility of the license holder to enquire the status of the medical verification, with their GP.

Nottinghamshire Firearms Licensing will return incomplete applications to you.

Please Note

Some web browsers don't allow editable forms. For this reason we recommend using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers.

Application Forms

Please read the guidance notes carefully before completing your application form. You need to ensure that the medical verification form is completed by your GP as applications will not be accepted without medical verification. In the unusual case of your GP refusing to complete your medical verification, you may wish to use the services of Med Cert who are contactable online at www.medcert.co.uk  or by telephone at 020 8063 4503.

Firearms Licence - Good Reason

An applicant for a firearm certificate needs to demonstrate "good reason" for the weapons requested. In the case of target shooting, "good reason" can only be satisfied by the applicant being a full and active member of a Home Office approved club (probationary membership is not acceptable), and the club must be approved for the use of the firearms requested in the application. In the case of shooting on land, the applicant must provide primary land that is suitable for all calibres requested and the land has been passed as suitable by the force area in which it is situated.

Please complete the Form for Good Reason if you are applying for a Firearms Certificate.

Applications for Home Office Approved Shooting Clubs

Following the successful pilot project for online shooting clubs, all applications for approval (new or renewal) should be submitted directly to the Home Office, via the web portal, from Monday 11 June 2018. This applies to all clubs in England and Wales. Applications will only be accepted by the Home Office, and should no longer be sent directly to the police.

Once you have submitted your application, the Home Office will review it and pass it to the local police force, who will then make enquiries before sending the application back to the Home Office. If you do not provide sufficient information or supporting evidence, the Home Office may reject your application and invite you to resubmit it.

Before applying you must ensure that you fulfil the criteria as set out in the Home Office Clubs’ Criteria leaflet

Renewals cost £84 and are valid for 6 years. You should apply to renew your approval at least 3 months before it’s due to expire.
