Be Safe Online - Cyber Crime Competition 2021

Share by emailShare by email

The force’s lesson plans have been designed for years 5, 6, 7 & 8 (KS2 and KS3) students that aim to help children learn how to protect online accounts, the Computer Misuse Act and the consequences of breaking it. Please see below for the downloadable lesson plans.

Nottinghamshire received an increase in account hackings (social media/online shopping) and therefore wanted to proactively provide education to help reduce this trend. They also felt the need to advertise Cyber Choices process further within education ensuring schools have the knowledge on how to make Cyber Choices referrals.

Kirsty Jackson our Cyber Protect and Prevent Officer teamed up with TV personality Baasit Siddiqui who helped create the lesson plans. Baasit worked with us on behalf of Siddiqui Education, an organisation which helps inspire children through workshops.

They added voiceovers to the lesson plans to adapt nicely with the lockdown restrictions within schools at the time of the competition, which helped ensure students could get involved from home.

Fifty-five schools confirmed participation on delivery of the lesson plans for Safer Internet day and provided exceptional feedback with the success of the delivery of both the lesson plans and the competition.

An average of 14,480 students completed the lesson plans, however we expect this number to be much higher.

By entering the competition, children had the opportunity to win prizes for creating a piece of work that helped educate themselves, their peers and parents on how to best protect their online accounts.
