The A1 has been closed in both directions, following an incident on the northbound carriageway which saw a HGV jack-knife and cross the central reservation.

Nottinghamshire Police were called just after 8.30pm this evening (Monday 11 November) to the report of the incident at Elkesley, near to Gamston airfield. The incident is now being dealt with by police and colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

A second vehicle – a car – is believed to have collided with the HGV during the incident before leaving the road. The male occupant of the vehicle is now in the process of being freed by fire and rescue crews. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

Both carriageways are to remain closed while recovery of the vehicles involved is undertaken and officers work to guide the resulting traffic off the carriageway.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 874 of 11 November.
