Two men were arrested after officers from three police forces worked together to stop a stolen van on the M1.

Nottinghamshire Police were alerted by colleagues in Leicestershire that the vehicle was believed to be connected to recent offences and was travelling north up the motorway.

Tactical pursuit officers from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire joined forces at around 1.20am this morning (Thursday) to box the vehicle in after its tyres were punctured by a stinger device deployed across the carriageway.

It came to a stop around a mile north of junction 26.

Two men, aged 46 and 38, were arrested and taken into custody by Derbyshire Police. The van was also taken away.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Waldram, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great bit of teamwork by officers and control room staff and I am delighted that we were able to bring this pursuit so a successful and safe conclusion.

“It was also a great advert for how police forces are working together to prevent the road network being used for criminal purposes.”
