Detectives are linking two burglaries in the Riverside Road and Farndon areas of Newark.

Two men wearing balaclavas entered a house in Riverside Road just before 9pm yesterday (Thursday 10 January 2019) and when challenged said they were police officers.

The only description we have is that they were wearing dark clothing and made off in a dark coloured car. Nothing was taken and no violence was used.

Officers are linking it to a burglary in the Farndon area at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Detective Sergeant Mark Shaw said: "These crimes are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and we are following up a number of leads. Additional police patrols have also been put in place in the area and we remind residents to be vigilant by ensuring they keep windows and doors locked. We'd also be keen to hear from any drivers in the areas at the time it happened with dash cam footage or any residents with CCTV."

If you saw anything or have any information that could help, please call us on 101 quoting incident 793 of 10 January. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Genuine police officers all carry warrant cards and will willingly produce these to identify themselves. If in doubt, you can call 101 or 999 to check.
