A reckless driver led police on a high-speed chase before getting out and dumping drugs in a garden.

Eoin Mulcaire hit speeds of almost 100mph as he tried to escape police who suspected he was driving whilst uninsured as he went through Retford.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he overtook a number of cars into the path of oncoming traffic as he sped from police for five minutes.

At one point a learner car had to break sharply to avoid a head-on collision.

Mulcaire eventually abandoned the Audi A3 in Turners Croft, North Leverton. He threw a black plastic bag into a garden and ran.

But chasing officers soon found the 31-year-old hiding behind a shed and arrested him.

The bag was retrieved and it was found to contain quantities of cannabis and cocaine.

Mulcaire, of Kirke Street, Retford, was jailed today (22 July) for three years after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, supplying a class B drug and two counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Following the sentencing, PC Gareth Mitchell said: “Driving of this nature is reckless in the extreme and puts other people’s lives at risk.

"As police officers we see the aftermath of high speed road traffic accidents all too frequently – people seriously injured and even killed on our roads. We also witness the wider emotional impact on the families of those involved.

“In the same way we will not tolerate driving of this nature, we will also not tolerate drug dealing as it can fuel all manner of crimes in our communities.

“There is simply no excuse for this kind of behaviour and I hope Mulcaire uses this experience to change his ways for the better.”
