A number of homes are being evacuated in Worksop due to a major flooding risk caused by heavy rainfall.

The River Ryton has risen to potentially dangerous levels and flooding is already affecting a number of streets in the town centre, including Central Avenue, Newcastle Avenue, Hardy Street, King Street and Allen Street.

A rest centre has been set up at Worksop Leisure Centre where people can seek refuge and provisions.

Superintendent Mat Healey, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Residents affected by flooding are being advised to leave their homes before water levels rise too high, leaving them in need of rescuing. If in any doubt, act quickly and head to safety."

An evacuation postcard, pictured, gives residents advice on what to consider when evacuating their home.
