Bargain Hunt viewers were in for a treat this afternoon when our very own PC Tony Chambers got down on one knee and proposed to his partner and teammate.

Alison, soon-to-be Mrs Chambers, was in shock when Tony popped the question during their challenge on the antiques show.

The episode was filmed in the grounds of Kedleston Hall, Derby, at the end of last year. The episode aired on BBC One at 12.15pm earlier today (12 January).

Alison was completely surprised by the proposal and says that she had been ‘hen-pecking’ her now fiancé for a while, but had no idea he would do it on national TV.

Tony worked tirelessly with the production team, whilst continuing to keep the secret from Alison. Time was starting to run out on the show and Tony had to buy an item that went against everything they had discussed, yet Alison still didn’t suspect a thing.

The final moments saw her looking at a beautiful ring trying to guess its worth but had forgotten her glasses, little did she know the ring had been engraved with her name, so Tony began to read the inside, before dropping to his knee with a proposal of marriage. With cameras all around them and everyone in the tent stood still in silence, Alison said: “I’ll let you know” followed immediately by a “YES!” and a round of applause.

PC Chambers said: “Alison is always playing pranks on me and I saw this as the perfect opportunity to make her believe that it may be a prank. However, both of our reactions on the day left no one in any doubt how serious we are about each other.”

Congratulations to you both and all the luck for the future!
