Man arrested following aggravated burglary and arson in Carlton-in-Lindrick

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and arson following an incident in Carlton-in-Lindrick.

Officers were called to a report that three men carrying hammers and wearing balaclavas had forced their way into a house in High Road at around 00.30am today (Sunday 28 June 2020).

One of the offenders went towards the victim with a hammer but there was a struggle resulting in a balaclava being removed and the three men quickly left. It’s also believed they set a car on fire outside the property afterwards.

Response officers arrived within minutes and saw three men running towards fields, the police dog helped track a man down resulting in the arrest.

Enquiries continue and work is underway to locate two outstanding suspects.

Detective Sergeant Ricky Ellis said: "This was a nasty incident but some really good police work involving several teams resulted in the quick arrest of a man an hour and twenty minutes after it was reported to us. He remains in custody.

"We are carrying out several enquiries today as the investigation team work to track down the outstanding offenders.

“We believe this was an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public."
