Man arrested following distraction burglary in Clifton

A man has been arrested in connection with a distraction burglary in Clifton.

A 78-year-old man received a knock on his door just after 6pm yesterday (Monday 12 March 2019) from a man who asked for a cigarette. He went away but came back about five minutes later asking for a drink of water.

The man followed the victim into his house, off Farnborough Road, and stole £60 from his wallet while he was getting the water for him.

Following enquiries officers arrested a 39-year-old man last night on suspicion of burglary. He remains in police custody.
