Man charged after equipment stolen from work van

A 24-year-old man is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' today (Thursday 15 October) having been arrested by Newark officers yesterday.

Nottinghamshire Police received a report that a man had smashed the window to a work van and stole work equipment in Yorke Drive at 3.19pm (Wednesday 14 October).

Officers attended and arrested a man within three minutes of the initial call. They also located a lock knife.

Cliff Bunch, of Yorke Drive, Newark, was charged with theft from a motor vehicle, possession of a bladed article and breach of a restraining order.

Heather Sutton, District Commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: "My response team acted instantly and their quick actions led to them detaining a man nearby.

"The incident was called in by a passerby and I'd like to encourage people to continue to report anything suspicious they see.

"Thefts where tools and work related items are stolen can often be detrimental to the owners livelihood and we are dedicated to tackling vehicle crime in Newark."
