A 22-year-old man has been jailed for six months after a shop theft in Nottingham city centre on Wednesday 6 November 2019.

Robert Iancu, of Stanton Street, Derby, pleaded guilty to theft, possession of a knife and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas at Nottinghamshire Magistrates' Court on Thursday 7 November 2019.

Iancu was found to have a knife and pepper spray when he was searched after the theft of a coat.

Inspector Mark Stanley said: “It is not acceptable to carry knives or weapons of any kind, and I am glad that the outcome in this case reflects that.

“This was great work by two student officers and has resulted in two weapons being taken off our streets.”
