A 37-old man who raped and sexually assaulted a woman in Mansfield has been locked up for five years.

Stephen Evans was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Friday 12 October 2018) after being found guilty of two counts of rape and one sexual assault on Monday 8 October following trial.

Evans attacked the woman at his home in Forest Road, Mansfield despite her telling him no and asking him to stop. He denied the offences all along saying it was consensual but a jury saw through his defense in court.

Detective Constable Dave Nicks said: "It's atrocious that someone would think they have any right to do this to another human being. We're pleased with the sentencing and would like to thank the victim for her bravery in telling us what happened and seeing the case through trial. We hope that she'll be able to move on from this horrific ordeal and would like to remind people that sexual violence is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire."
