A man who broke into a renovated property on a building site where he'd been working has been sentenced for burglary.

Christian Anscombe, of Pelham Road, Nottingham, was found guilty of the charge, following a trial, when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 2 October 2018.

The court heard that Anscombe, 29, had been given a job at the building site in Newstead Grove, Arboretum, but went on to break into one of the properties, stealing three televisions, between 3pm on 11 August 2018 and 7am on 12 August 2018.

Anscombe’s fingerprints and blood were found on a damaged door panel of the property.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 15 months, when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court for sentencing on Tuesday (October 9, 2018). He was also ordered to pay £600 compensation.

Detective Constable Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The victims in this case had tried to help Anscombe by giving him work but he betrayed that trust by stealing from them."

Burglary is a priority for Nottinghamshire Police which introduced new burglary teams in April to tackle the issue in the city and county.

Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas, who leads the Force’s City Burglary Team, added: "We want to reassure the people of Nottinghamshire that we will continue to pursue those committing burglaries and remain committed to catching those responsible and bringing them to justice."
