A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two people and criminal damage following an incident in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police officers were called to Chatsworth Road at around 10.20pm yesterday (Friday 10 July) to reports that a man had assaulted a woman and threatened a number of other people. A baby also suffered bruising.

On arrival, a man armed himself with a glass and looked like he was about to throw it towards officers and was Taser red-dotted to effect arrest.

The man remains in custody whilst enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Tom Carver said: "This is completely unacceptable behaviour to lash out in such a violent way, injuring a young child as a result and we will endeavour to ensure the man responsible is held to account for this crime. We want to reassure local people that it was an isolated incident and my team are working hard to gather all available evidence."
