A trio of wanted suspects who had failed to appear in court for various offences have been arrested.

Two suspects, a 39 year-old man charged with a drug offence and a 51-year-old man charged with assaulting an emergency worker, were arrested early on Thursday morning in pre-planned operations by Mansfield’s new Operation Reacher team.

A third suspect, a 19-year-old man due in court for an alleged breach to his criminal behaviour order, was arrested later in the day.

Operation Reacher is a new proactive policing initiative to address key community concerns and provide additional support to other teams.

Inspector Nick Butler, district commander for Mansfield, said: “Failing to appear in court is a very serious matter that we simply won’t tolerate people who demonstrated such contempt for the law.

“The good news is that the Operation Reacher team will be targeting those people every week from now on, so I would urge anyone thinking about skipping a court date to think twice before they do it because we will catch up with you.”
