Police discover cannabis factory in loft

Police discovered a cannabis factory in a loft when they made an arrest attempt at a Nottingham home.

Officers found almost 250 plants at the property in Cherhill Close, Clifton, after they attended on unrelated matters at around 9pm on Monday (30 October).

The team from City South Operation Reacher spotted a ladder between one of the bedrooms and the loft space while searching the property.

Plants were being grown inside the loft and further mature plants were found inside a second bedroom.

During their search of the property, officers also found a quantity of cash and a mobile phone.

A 38-year-old man who was inside the property has been arrested on suspicion of producing a Class B drug.

PC Luke Whittle, of the City South Operation Reacher team, said:

“We are always alert to other criminality when making arrest attempts like this and know the signs to spot the production of cannabis taking place.

“This was a large cannabis grow and I’m pleased we have been able to shut it down and destroy the plants.

“Cannabis production is invariably linked to wider, organised criminality and can also create issues and dangers for people living in our communities.

“Unsuspecting neighbouring families are often put at risk by rival criminal gangs if they target the crop to steal the plants.

“They can also be put at risk of house fires by the dangerous electrical wiring and bypassing that we very often see with these types of grows.

“I would urge anyone who believes cannabis is being produced in their neighbourhood to get in touch. Your information could be a vital missing piece of the jigsaw which allows us to take positive action.

All the cannabis seized from the address will be  destroyed and the equipment used to power the grow rendered unusable.
