Detectives investigating after jewellery was stolen while builders carried out work on a home have arrested a suspect.
Officers were called to Grace Drive, Bobbers Mill, Nottingham, after the victim discovered a high-value item was missing from an upstairs bedroom.
He had invited a builder into his property to carry out repair work in the kitchen eight days earlier on 22 May 2023.
The builder did not return after 22 May – leaving work on the kitchen unfinished – and had not been given permission to enter other rooms in the property.
A 23-year-old man was arrested by colleagues in the West Midlands on Monday on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“No one deserves to have their personal items ransacked when they invite people into their home to carry out work.
“When finding a builder we would urge people to go through all the necessary checks to ensure they are employing legitimate tradespeople.
“I am pleased we have arrested a suspect but our investigation remains ongoing into this incident. Anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 664 of 30 May 2023, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
