A man was left with a fractured eye socket and a dislocated shoulder following an assault outside a takeaway.
The 33-year-old victim was standing outside the shop in Mansfield Road, Nottingham city centre, when he became embroiled in an argument with two men.
At that point, the duo – now known to be Harish Manohar and Aakash Sooriyakumaran – launched an attack on the man and punched him to the ground.
Manohar and Sooriyakumaran then stood over the victim as he lay on the floor and repeatedly stamped on him before fleeing from the scene.
The man was left with severe injuries to his face and shoulder that required hospital treatment following the assault in the early hours of 13 November 2022.
He also had his phone and wallet taken by Manohar, 20, and Sooriyakumaran, 21, who were tracked down by officers nearby just a few minutes later.
After a search of the duo led to the stolen items being discovered in their possession, they were both arrested.
Manohar, of Bagot Street, Birmingham, and Sooriyakumaran, of Castle Gate, Nottingham, went on to plead guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and theft.
They appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (19 October), where they were both sentenced to 21 months in prisons suspended for 18 months.
They were also each ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work as well as 10 rehabilitation requirement days.
Inspector Steve Dalby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a horrible attack that left the victim with serious injuries to his face and shoulder that required hospital treatment.
“In addition to being repeatedly punched in the face, the victim was also stamped on multiple times as he lay on the ground and had his phone and wallet taken.
“Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate the level of violence Manohar and Sooriyakumaran demonstrated during this incident and won’t hesitate to bring anyone who behaves this way before the courts.”
