Further arrests in ATM thefts investigation

Police investigating a string of thefts from cash machines have arrested two additional suspects.

Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation after trapping devices were fitted to ATMs in Sneinton Dale and Bramcote, as well as in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and Scotland.

Many thousands of pounds were stolen following the tampering incidents, which took place between May and July 2023.

Two women, aged 34 and 33, were arrested on Tuesday at an address in Barnsley and questioned on suspicion of concealing / disguising / converting / transferring / removing criminal property.

They were later released on police bail.

Two other suspects were detained in August and have since been charge with a string of offences.

Felix Urcaciu, aged 31, of Fostergate, Selby, North Yorkshire, has been charged with conspiring to steal from another, possession of criminal property, and concealing / disguising / converting / transferring / removing criminal property.

Cristian Urcaciu, aged 34, of Upper Sheffield Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has been charged with conspiring to steal from another and concealing / disguising / converting / transferring / removing criminal property.

The pair appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday 4 August and were granted conditional bail. They are next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 3 May 2024.

Police Staff Investigator Jodie Ridgewell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Offences of this nature are upsetting for victims and can be very costly for cash machine operators. I am pleased we have now been able to arrest two additional suspects and our investigation continues.”
