A burglar who stole jewellery after breaking into a house has been locked up.
Jake Mason smashed a patio door and window to gain entry to the home, in Derby Road, Lenton.
The victim, who had been to see her father in hospital, saw Mason inside her house when she returned. She chased after him, after he jumped out of the broken window, but later lost sight of him.
She called the police who carried out inquiries, including checking CCTV footage. Tests were carried out on blood traces found at the scene which linked Mason to the crime.
The 29-year-old was duly tracked down and arrested at his home address.
He was subsequently charged and he went on to plead guilty to burglary. He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday (6 October 2023).
Mason, formerly of Althorpe Drive, Loughborough, was jailed for 876 days.
Judge James Sampson said:
“This was a gross violation of the complainant’s home. I accept you massively regret what you did, and that it was probably impulsive, but she may never feel safe there again.”
Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Burglary can have a devastating and long-standing adverse impact on people’s lives which is why we are committed to investigating all reports made to us.
“Good police work led to us linking Mason to this despicable offence and I’d like to reassure people that we will do everything we can to pursue burglary offenders who can expect a robust response from the force.”
