A man was arrested after throwing a cup of coffee over a security guard at a Nottingham store.
The incident happened after the security guard asked the man to leave the premises, in Perry Road, Basford, as he was banned from the location for begging and pestering customers.
The man, who was by the store entrance, refused to leave and so the security guard told him he was going to call the police.
This angered the man and he then took off the lid of his coffee cup and threw the hot contents over the security guard.
The drink mostly went down the guard's clothing, although his face was also splattered.
Officers arrived and arrested a man who had been detained at the scene by security staff.
Robert Handley, of Maud Street, New Basford, has been charged with common assault. The 40-year-old was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 25 October 2023.
PC Connor Richardson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“It is never acceptable to attack someone for doing their job. We treated this incident with due severity and I hope our robust response to the incident provides reassurance to the store’s staff and customers.”
