A late night off-road chase down a dirt track and across fields led to police arresting two suspects and reuniting a stolen keyless car with its owner.
Police Constable James McClintock, of the Nottinghamshire Police’s Road Crime Team, was on patrol in an unmarked car when he spotted a suspected stolen black Ford which had earlier failed to stop for colleagues.
Despite illuminating his blue lights, the car failed to slow down as it headed along a dual carriageway with its lights out.
It swerved to avoid a police stinger device and as the car headed towards Mansfield town centre it veered down a narrow dirt track leading to fields.
PC McClintock said:
“The track was narrow, bumpy and slippy, but I managed to keep the car in view where it eventually turned off the track into a field.
"When I turned into the field I saw both front doors of the car open and two people running from it.
“I was single crewed so I shouted that I was a police officer with a dog and told them to stand still or I’d release it. As it was dark and they couldn’t see me properly they both returned to me where I handcuffed them.”
Checks revealed the keyless Ford was on cloned plates and had been stolen from Doncaster. Following inquiries police were able to return it to its rightful owner.
The police chase and subsequent double arrest features on tonight’s action-packed episode of Police Interceptors.
The show switches from four wheels to two wheels as members of the force’s dedicated City Knife Crime Team put the brakes on a suspected drug dealer after stopping a motorbike.
The rider appeared nervous and smelt of cannabis which quickly leads to officers to finding a bag of the Class B drug hidden behind the motorbike’s seat.
The suspect also failed a roadside drugs wipe and was arrested. When police searched his home in Sutton-in-Ashfield they found further quantities of cannabis.
Also on tonight’s show, officers seize more illegal drugs and make another arrest after their unmarked car is overtaken at speed by a BMW.
They pull the driver over and while searching inside the car they recover a quantity of cannabis and bags of white powder.
