Five suspects are in custody following a string of mobile phone robberies in Nottingham city centre early this morning (26 September).
A group of males threatened a 21-year-old outside the Cornerhouse at around 2am before taking his iPhone.
Two similar incidents were reported at around 3.30am. A 20-year-old man reported having his phone stolen after being approached by a group in Shakespeare Street, while two 18-year-olds were robbed of their mobile phones in Talbot Street.
A description of the group was provided to officers and five suspects, aged 17-21, were detained a short time later.
The suspects remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Officers quickly responded to these reports and were able to detain multiple suspects.
“No-one should be threatened in the street, or have their belongings taken from them like this and I’d like to assure the victims we are doing everything we can to bring the offenders to justice.
“A number of people were in the near vicinity of these incidents and I’d urge anyone who saw anything to please get in touch with us.”
Witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting crime reference 23*597241, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
