Suspected grower arrested after nearly 200 cannabis plants seized

A suspected cannabis farmer was arrested after police found three rooms full of plants during a house raid.

Officers executed a warrant on Monday (11 September) morning after receiving intelligence of potential drug activity.

After forcing entry to the house in Folkton Gardens, St Ann’s, police quickly located and detained a man at the bottom of the stairs. 

Searches were then carried out by officers from the St Ann’s neighbourhood policing and City Central Operation Reacher teams.

These led to around 200 plants being discovered growing across the house in total, with 112 found inside one upstairs bedroom alone.

All the plants and growing equipment were seized from the house, which was also found to have had its electricity bypassed to facilitate the grow.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis.

PC Tom Griffiths, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Intelligence-led warrants like the one carried out here play a major role in helping us follow up claims of suspected drug activity and shut these types of cannabis farms down.

“Thanks to this information, we were ultimately able to seize nearly 200 plants and arrest someone inside the property who we suspect was helping grow them.

“People behind these operations tend to make illegal and very dangerous modifications to their electricity to power these grows, which provide a fire risk to both that property and other houses nearby.

“They also rely on the exploitation of vulnerable people who are tasked with tending to these grows, often for people with links to wider criminality.

“Clearly this is wrong, which is precisely why we do so much work to try and stay one step ahead of these operations and shut them down.
