Man arrested after graffiti sprayed over apartment block in city centre

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after graffiti was sprayed over an apartment complex in Nottingham city centre.

Police attended Cranbrook House, in Lower Parliament Street, following a report of a man climbing up scaffolding at approximately 12.15am on Sunday (11 August).

Upon arrival, officers found a large amount of graffiti on the outside of an external wall on one of the upper floors, where building work is taking place.

A man was located near the top of the building with a bag containing numerous cans of spray paint.

The man engaged with officers and was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and going equipped to cause damage.

He was taken into custody for questioning and bailed while further investigation work is carried out.

Sergeant Chris Johnson, of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“Local response officers did a great job here and were very quickly on the scene of this report.

“They discovered a large amount of graffiti that caused significant damage to a residential building, which is completely unacceptable.

“A man at the scene presented himself to officers and was detained.

“Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate criminal damage and I would like to thank the member of the public who alerted us to this incident.”
