Suspect arrested after city street robberies

Police chased down and arrested a suspect after being alerted to a street robbery.

Officers on patrol were approached on Monday (5 August) by a man who said his brother and a friend had been robbed in Nottingham city centre.

They soon spotted a suspect matching the description which had been given to them and detained him after a foot chase.

The two young men had been robbed in Middle Hill, Nottingham, around 8.25am.

A man had confronted them and asked to see the contents of a bag one of them was carrying.

The offender took a quantity of cash from a wallet inside the bag. He made threats which left the victim believing he could be carrying a knife, but no blade was seen.

The offender rode away on a bicycle.

Officers were also alerted to another incident around 8.10am on Monday when a woman reported she had been threatened by a man who demanded she hand over her mobile phone.

The victim was not harmed during the incident.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery.

Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The officers did a great job when they were approached by a member of the public while on patrol.

“After gaining a description they were able to track down a suspect for both this robbery and an attempted robbery.

“He is now being questioned by detectives and we are working hard on the investigation.

“We never underestimate the impact robberies of this nature can have on victims, even when they are not physically harmed.”
