Suspect arrested following alleged crossbow incident

A suspect has been arrested after someone was reportedly threatened with a crossbow.

Police attended London Road, Newark, following concerns a teenager had fallen off his moped.

The 17-year-old rider was on the floor when response officers arrived – having suffered non-life-altering leg injuries.

At that point, police received reports that the boy had fallen from the moped after being threatened with a crossbow.

Armed policing officers then joined the response team at the scene after 4pm on Friday (23 August) to conduct a search.

A 29-year-old man was subsequently identified and arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Inspector Alice Bartle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thankfully, the rider involved in this incident wasn’t more seriously hurt after coming off his moped, having reportedly been threatened with a crossbow.

“There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to ever carry an offensive weapon of this nature out in a public setting.

“We are still in the process of investigating this incident, so would ask anyone who saw what happened or has any other information to get in touch with us.
