A man has been jailed after he was spotted carrying a knife in Warsop.
Stasys Linkus, aged 34, was spotted in High Street shortly before 1.30pm on Monday 5 August this year.
He was then spotted a short time later in Clumber Street – also carrying a knife.
When he was stopped and searched by officers they uncovered a small kitchen knife concealed in the sleeve of his jacket, and another larger blade in his jacket pocket.
A small quantity of cannabis was also discovered.
Linkus, formerly of Meden Vale, claimed in his police interview that he had been on his way to carry out gardening work at a local address, but was unable to say which address he was travelling to.
He was remanded into custody shortly afterwards and later pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a knife and one count of possessing cannabis.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 27 November he was jailed for 145 days.
Linkus had previously admitted to another public order offence in High Street on August 6, causing criminal damage to railings in Burns Lane, and also causing criminal damage to a cell at Mansfield Police Station.
Inspector Kylie Davies, district commander for Mansfield, said:
“This individual caused a considerable amount of alarm and distress to local people and has now been jailed as a result. Anyone else considering carrying such weapons in public can also expect a similar response and outcome.”
