Police have arrested a man as part of an ongoing investigation into a serious sexual assault on a woman in a park.
Multiple lines of inquiry have been carried out since the incident took place, around 3am on Saturday 21 December, when a young woman was assaulted in Victoria Park, Bath Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.
A 19-year-old man was arrested yesterday evening (Friday 27 December 2024) on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody.
Detective Inspector Nicole Milner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victim has been informed of this development and continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.
“Although we have arrested a suspect, this remains an ongoing investigation and I would ask anyone with information which may assist us with our inquiries to please come forward if they haven’t already done so.
“We understand the concern this incident has caused in the local community. I want to reassure people that we treat reports of this nature extremely seriously.
“As a force we will never tolerate violence against women and girls and we will continue to do everything we can to pursue perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 119 of 21 December 2024 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
