Schoolchildren show thanks to police by bringing them Christmas gifts

Some of Santa’s little helpers have delivered some early Christmas cheer to City North officers.

Children from Rise Park Primary School paid a special visit to Bestwood’s station to say thank you to the police.

A range of festive cakes, treats and other gifts were dropped off to Oxclose Lane Police Station by Year 1 and 2 pupils and their parents.

The school’s visit last Friday (6 December) afternoon came about after the young students told their teachers they wanted to spread some Christmas cheer to their local policing team.

They decided to stop by the station because, in the children’s words:

“They would love to say thank you for all the hard work you do in these winter cold months, and feel you deserve a little pick up during those tough night shifts.”

All the Christmassy cakes were baked by the school ahead of a ‘Christmas CommunARTY’ project they hosted last week, where the children got crafty and made lots of different things to deliver to their local public services, including the police and NHS.

Friday’s special delivery was very well received by officers and staff alike at Oxclose Lane, with the festive treats giving everyone a boost during the countdown to the end of the year and – of course – Christmas Day.

Inspector Paul Ferguson, neighbourhood inspector for the City North area, said:

“Speaking on behalf of our neighbourhood policing team, I’d like to thank all the children and teachers at Rise Park Primary School for such a lovely gesture.

“It was a really nice surprise to be contacted by the school and told they were planning to drop some early Christmas gifts off, while we were of course delighted to greet the children and their parents.

“This really epitomised what community spirit is all about, especially at this time of the year.

“It’s fair to say all the cakes they kindly baked for us have gone down a treat with our officers and staff, who are really grateful to the school – and in particular the pupils – for thinking of us and making this special delivery.”

“The children wanted to say a huge thank you and 'give back' to people in the community over the Christmas period so came up with this idea.

"Not only have they used their own initiative, they have also shown enthusiasm and care to others. We are very proud of them."
