A burglary crackdown in the Broxtowe borough is continuing to prove a success after police arrested and charged their latest suspect.
Focused work to crack down on those who commit burglaries has been prioritised by local police teams, and their ongoing coordinated efforts to tackle the issue have reaped rewards with burglaries in the area reducing and several suspects being arrested and charged.
Their latest success follows a reported break-in at an address in Station Road, Beeston, while the victim was away.
When she returned home, she found her rear patio door had been smashed, her house had been ransacked, and cash and jewellery had been stolen.
Following detailed inquiries, a 42-year-old man was arrested on Monday (5 February 2024) and was subsequently charged with burglary.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (6 February 2024) in connection with the break-in which happened between 24 and 29 December 2023.
The suspect was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 5 March 2024.
The ongoing team effort to tackle and prevent burglary in the Broxtowe borough involves neighbourhood policing teams, response teams, and CID colleagues working closely together, supported by other Force resources including police dogs and handlers.
Among other successes over the last few months include:
Inspector Mike Ebbins, District Commander of Broxtowe, said: “All policing teams at Broxtowe are fully aware of the impact burglary has on victims, both financially and emotionally. It is an incredibly personal and invasive crime, which can shatter confidence and feelings of safety.
“We made burglary a local crime priority at the start of January and have thrown everything at the problem since then. This has included increased hot spot patrols, daily targeted arrests of offenders, investigative ownership by our local CID team, and crime prevention advice to victims.
"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own homes and I hope our positive results to tackle burglary reassure the public how committed we are to pursuing suspects and bringing them before the court to face justice.
"We will always investigate any incidents reported to us and do everything in our power to seek justice for burglary victims while providing them with support and crime prevention advice.”
