Crime prevention officers have been cracking down on anti-social behaviour and creating a safer environment for visitors at Broxtowe Country Park.
Officers have been listening to residents’ concerns and putting in measures to ensure the park and surrounding residential area experience a reduction in criminal activity.
Concerns include stolen bikes hidden in the overgrowth of the park, reports of anti-social behaviour and off-road bikes causing a nuisance in the area.
The crime prevention officers work collaboratively across force departments and engage with partner organisations to advise on the most appropriate and reasonable ways to reduce crime.
They will identify vulnerable areas and make recommendations to introduce security measures.
These can include cropping back foliage on pathways and cutting back overhanging trees that make visibility difficult.
They will also make suggestions around improving lighting, CCTV, and fencing in an area to make it harder for criminals to operate.
As well as speaking to residents and delivering leaflets, the Broxtowe neighbourhood policing team have also been conducting regular, high-visibility patrols in the area to reduce and deter criminal activity.
They have also been using the police drone team to identify any suspects linked to criminal activity at the park.
The crime prevention officers work across the city and county supporting victims of crime with specialist and constructive advice to deter and prevent criminal activity.
They are part of the force’s Prevention Hub, which is a collaboration between multiple force departments responsible for developing and delivering strategies to prevent crime and disorder throughout the city and county.
Crime Prevention Officer Yvonne Pickersgill, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour is a priority for us as we know the distress this can cause to our communities.
“Through effective partnership and proactive prevention work, Nottinghamshire Police can reduce and deter incidents of anti-social behaviour, making the environment like Broxtowe Country Park and the surrounding residential area a much safer and desirable place to live and visit.
“I would encourage residents to report any criminal activity or anti-social behaviour to Nottinghamshire Police as soon as an incident occurs.
“This will alert the police to areas of concern and will help officers to attend the location at the earliest opportunity. Information reported to us also helps our neighbourhood teams to build on intelligence and identify local issues.”
