A burglar who broke into a home which was being renovated has been jailed after droplets of his blood were found at the scene of the crime.
Martin Taylor smashed a window to gain entry to the unoccupied property in Lincoln Street, Old Basford, before leaving with two rolls of linoleum flooring.
Crime scene investigators attended after blood droplets were found on shards of glass and on the floor.
The blood was forensically tested, and a match came back to 38-year-old Taylor, of no fixed address, who was later arrested in connection with the break-in.
Taylor was subsequently charged in relation to the raid, which happened during the early hours of 8 November 2023, and went on to plead guilty to burglary.
He was jailed for 876 days when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday (5 March 2024).
Detective Constable Colin Kirkup, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Tackling burglary is a priority for the force as we know all too well the lasting impact such crimes can have on the victims.
“The victim in this case was left psychologically distressed and had to pay towards repairing the damage caused by Taylor.
“The public need protecting from prolific criminals like Taylor, and I am pleased our work in the case has resulted in him now being removed from our streets.”
