Jail for serial thief who twice burgled pub to steal alcohol

A prolific thief who twice broke into the same pub and stole alcohol has been locked up.

Nicholas Jackson targeted the Gamston Lock on two separate occasions in the space of a fortnight.

Both nighttime burglaries happened over the Christmas period, with Jackson smashing a window to get inside.

The first break-in took place during closing hours at the pub in Radcliffe Road, Gamston, on 16 December 2021.   

After gaining access, the 51-year-old went straight behind the bar and grabbed multiple bottles of spirits, before making his escape.

He then repeated the same crime less than two weeks later, on 29 December 2021 – again filling a bag with stolen alcohol.

This time, however, he set off an alarm, and dropped a bag full of stolen items while leaving the premises, which was later recovered by police.

Officers caught up with Jackson, of Bassingfield Lane, Gamston, later that same day, and he was charged with two counts of burglary.

Jackson denied these offences, until a few days before his trial date in February 2024, where he finally admitted to carrying out the break-ins.

By that stage, he’d also admitted to two further offences, which both centred on Jackson stealing items that didn’t belong to him.

Both incidents took place in Southchurch Drive, Clifton, with Jackson firstly stealing laundry products from a shop on 14 February 2023.

He then followed this crime up by stealing an e-scooter from the same street on 22 May 2023.

Jackson appeared at Nottingham Crown Court to be sentenced for the two burglaries, theft of a motor vehicle, and shop theft on Thursday (14 March).

He was then sentenced to three years and three months in prison.

PC Catherine Stafford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Jackson is a prolific thief, who burgled the same pub on two separate occasions, before then stealing more items that didn’t belong to him in the months that followed.  

“Burglary is an incredibly invasive crime that can have a major impact on victims that can last for years, both from an emotional and financial standpoint.

“Break-ins of this nature can be hugely detrimental to local businesses, which is why we will always do whatever we can do put offenders like Jackson before the courts to face justice.

“We’re pleased to see that he’s finally admitted to his actions and has now been handed a custodial sentence.”
