A teenager has been arrested after a report a man was threatened and robbed by a suspect who pulled out a machete.
The victim had arranged to meet someone to buy an electronic item for his bike, but during the meeting a suspect allegedly pulled out the weapon from his waistband and lunged at him before stealing his bike.
The victim, who ran off into a nearby garden, wasn’t injured during the incident which happened in Prestwick Close, Strelley, shortly after 8pm yesterday (Thursday 14 November).
Following inquiries into the report, police arrested a 15-year-old boy during the early hours of today (Friday 15 November) on suspicion of robbery. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Chris Mavers, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “While our inquiries remain in their early stages, we are treating this report seriously and as a result of positive action taken we detained a suspect in relation to this incident.
“Carrying a knife or bladed weapon in public is a very serious offence that can destroy people’s lives. As such, this kind of behaviour simply will not be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police and offenders will be robustly dealt with.
“Investigations into this incident are still ongoing. As such, we are still very keen to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed it or have any information which could help us with our inquiries.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 640 of 14 November, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
