A Class A drugs haul with an estimated street value of hundreds of thousands of pounds was seized thanks to the skill and determination of Nottinghamshire Police’s Road Crime Team and Roads Policing Unit.
The incident, featured in tonight’s brand new instalment of Police Interceptors, is an example of Nottinghamshire Police’s tireless work, on a day-to-day basis, to catch criminals and disrupt illegal activity on our roads.
Five kilos of cocaine were recovered from the boot of the Volkswagen Golf which had been monitored as part of an operation.
A tactical plan was formed to stop the car after it made off at speed from officers in the Sutton-in-Ashfield area.
Officers worked together to try and box it in, but after ramming into one of the pursuing police units, the VW driver sped off.
The vehicle finally came to stop and was abandoned in Huthwaite, with the driver Callum Lane located and arrested nearby.
Lane, now aged 24 and formerly of Willow Gardens, Sutton-in-Ashfield, was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to supply a Class A drug.
He also admitted to a charge of dangerous driving, for which he was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for 12 months, ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work, and given an 18-month driving ban.
Lane appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on 6 September 2023, in relation to his offending on 23 November 2022.
The dramatic incident can be seen in tonight’s jam-packed episode of Police Interceptors.
Meanwhile, in tonight’s action-packed show, the force’s Knife Crime Team are in action and arrest a suspected drug dealer, officers are hot on trail of a man who sped off after a collision, and a runaway dangerous driver is chased down and arrested by Police Dog Rambo.
All this and more will be featured on Channel 5 at 8pm.
