Two drug dealers have been brought to justice after neighbourhood officers seized large hauls of Class A drugs during intelligence-led raids.
Officers found significant amounts of heroin and crack cocaine when they cut through the front door of a property in Meredith Close, The Meadows, while executing a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant.
Among the drugs seized were 62 wraps of heroin stored inside a bag and blocks of a substance which turned out to be heroin and crack cocaine, worth around £9,000 as individual street deals.
Quantities of cash and mobile phones were also recovered during the proactive police operation on the morning of 23 June 2023.
Twenty-three-year-old Louie Knight was arrested after he ran out into the garden of the address.
His fingerprints were found on the packaging of drugs and he was subsequently charged.
Officers also arrested 20-year-old Nashon Maleta after carrying out another warrant at an address in Lammas Gardens, The Meadows, on 26 July 2023.
Maleta was detained inside the property and he was found to be in possession of 57 wraps of crack cocaine and 58 wraps of heroin, worth around £1,150 as street deals.
Knight, of Newbold Street, Broxtowe Estate, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin and possession of cannabis.
Maleta, of Sketchley Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin.
Both appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday (2 October).
Knight was sentenced to 2,045 days in prison, amounting to just over five years and seven months.
Maleta was sentenced to three years in a young offenders' institution.
Inspector Steve Dalby, neighbourhood policing inspector for The Meadows, said: “Stamping out drug dealing and disrupting the illegal trade of drugs is a key priority across city south.
“We will not tolerate drug-dealing as it preys on the vulnerable in our communities. The supply of drugs can have a devastating impact on our neighbourhoods and, as this case highlights, anyone involved in this type of criminality can expect a visit from the police.
“Neighbourhood officers are at the heart of our communities and if you believe drug dealers are operating on your street, we want to hear from you. We will always listen and take appropriate action. Your information could be vital in enabling us to take positive action like this.
“I want to reassure people that we will continue to tackle drug crime head-on, and I hope the result in this case sends out a clear message that if you deal drugs in city south you will be caught and sent to prison.”
Anyone with any information about drug dealing should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
