Arrest after discarded drugs stash found under car

A suspected drug dealer was arrested after he was seen hiding behind a car by officers as they drove by.

The Armed Policing team were responding to an unrelated incident in Bestwood when they spotted suspicious behaviour.

Someone was seen crouching behind a car in Belleville Drive, before then throwing an unknown item underneath the vehicle.

At that point, officers stopped the car to speak to the individual, before chasing after them on foot when they tried to run away.

They didn’t get far before they were stopped by the policing team, with a search leading to the discovery of a phone and large amounts of cash.

This took place around 1am on Monday (23 September), with officers then retracing their steps back to the place where they’d originally spotted the suspect.

A bag filled with around 80 wraps of suspected heroin and crack cocaine was retrieved from under a parked car in Belleville Drive.

Police subsequently arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Inspector Paul Ferguson, neighbourhood inspector for the city north area, said: “The officers involved in this stop showed great awareness of their surroundings to make this arrest.

“Despite being tasked to the area for a completely separate incident, the team were able to spot someone acting suspiciously in the dark as they drove by.

“By immediately acting on these suspicions, the officers were ultimately able to catch up with a fleeing suspect and seize large quantities of suspected Class A drugs.

“Taking drugs off our streets remains a force priority, so it was pleasing to be able to make this discovery.”
