Families enjoying the school summer holidays learnt more about the work of our police teams in a series of community fun days in Hyson Green.
Six activity sessions were held at Bridlington Street Park having been organised by the local neighbourhood policing team.
Children were invited to climb inside a range of police vehicles, try their hand at arts and crafts and play a variety of sports with officers, while quizzing them about their job roles.
The sessions were held in partnership with The Ace Programme Charity, Asda Hyson Green, the Royal Air Force, the British Army and Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service.
PCSO Lucy Oram, who organised the events, said:
“I wanted to try and provide something for children to do as it can be hard to keep them occupied over the summer.
“Importantly though, I always strive to ensure children understand that they can approach the police and we aren’t just here ‘to take away naughty children’, as sometimes they believe.
“By providing these activities, the children were able to get to know their local officers and realise we are friendly people they can trust.
“Over 25 children came to the final session and they all left with a positive experience. It was nice when one child said, ‘I love the police!’
“Thank you to the partners who joined us and to the Arboretum neighbourhood officers.”
Inspector Liz Gaskin, who leads the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said the feedback from the activity days had been excellent. She said:
“I’m pleased we had a such a good turnout in the park and the feedback we’ve had has been really positive.
“To see so many young people come down to the event and get involved was tremendous - as was the support shown from the adults who either brought children to the event or just came to have a look at what was going on.
“We remain committed to making the community safer and we are continuing to work closely with partners to continue to make a difference to the Hyson Green community.”
