A man has been arrested following an attack with an air weapon in Clifton this afternoon.
Officers were called by a member of the public at around 2.20pm today (14 September) who said a man was being chased by another man possessing the weapon. The attack took place at the Southchurch Drive junction with Dungannon Road.
The victim, 44, sustained a minor injury to his finger, and armed officers attended the scene before making an arrest in Varney Road.
A 49-year-old man has been taken into custody and officers remain at the property in Varney Road, where the air weapon has been retrieved.
Chief Inspector Neil Humphris said:
“This would have been a distressing incident for the member of the public who reported this and anyone else who witnessed what happened.
“We take all reports of anyone possessing a weapon extremely seriously and we immediately deployed armed officers to the scene of the incident to ensure people were safe.
“We would like to hear from anyone else who witnessed what happened, but particularly anyone that saw a man in a grey hooded top and black trousers chasing a man with a dog.”
