Man jailed after violent attack on woman

A man headbutted a woman and repeatedly punched her in the face after they went back to her home following a night of drinking.

Keiron Eaton became angry and turned violent after the victim asked him to rephrase a disrespectful comment he had made about her while they were in bed.

The 39-year-old shouted and swore at her before assaulting her in her home in Clifton.

She repeatedly asked him to leave during the incident, which happened during the early hours of 11 May 2024, but he refused to do so.

When she went downstairs and called the police, Eaton grabbed her phone, threw it on the floor and stamped on it. He then hit her again to the face before leaving the address.

The victim went to hospital for treatment having suffered a black eye, cuts to her face, bruising and swelling.

She also suffered a sprained wrist and shoulder, needed strong medication for pain and had nightmares following her ordeal.

She called the police again, during the early hours of 8 June, reporting that Eaton was outside her address making a series of threats towards her, including threatening to stab her. Police attended and arrested Eaton nearby.

Eaton, of Red Lion Square, Heanor, Derbyshire, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday (3 September) after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage, and using threatening/insulting/abusive words or behaviour.

The court heard he was intoxicated at the time of his attack and that he felt ashamed of his ‘disgraceful piece of behaviour’.

However, Recorder Simon Ash KC deemed that Eaton posed a ‘high risk of causing serious harm to others’ and sentenced him to 12 months in prison. Eaton was also made subject of a five-year restraining order.

Detective Inspector Steven King, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a cowardly and persistent assault on the victim in her own home where she should have been safe.

“This kind of violence against women is absolutely appalling and we will always work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and safeguard victims.

“I am pleased Eaton has now been brought to justice and hope the outcome of this case sends a very clear message that this sort of violent and threatening behaviour will never be tolerated.”
