A man has been arrested following a sexual assault in Nottingham.
Police were called shortly after 4.45am on Sunday (23 February) after a young woman was assaulted by a man in York Street near to the Victoria Centre.
A 32-year-old man was arrested this morning (Monday 24 February) on suspicion of attempted rape. He remains in custody.
Detective Constable Laura Manley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection unit, said:
“While these types of incidents are thankfully rare, I appreciate this incident may cause some concern for members of the public. I would like to reassure them that we have officers in the area and anyone who is concerned can approach them.
“We're continuing to work hard on this case and investigate lines of inquiry. The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers while we continue with our investigation.
“While we have made an arrest in connection with this incident we would still like to speak to anybody who was in the area between 4am and 5am yesterday morning and who may have seen something.
“If you saw or heard anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant it may seem, we would urge you to get in touch as this information could help us with our investigation.”
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 127 of 23 February 2025 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
